Accessibility Statement
Our commitment to making TAFMEDS accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities.
Our Commitment
TAFMEDS is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying the relevant accessibility standards to ensure we provide equal access to all users.
As an educational platform supporting Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) graduate students, we recognize the importance of inclusive design and strive to make our fluency-building tools accessible to all learners.
Our Goal: To create a learning environment where everyone can develop fluency in ABA terminology, regardless of their abilities or the assistive technologies they use.
Conformance Status
TAFMEDS aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities.
We regularly test our Platform and work to address any accessibility issues that are identified. While we strive for full conformance, some areas may still be in progress.
Visual Accessibility
TAFMEDS includes the following visual accessibility features:
- Dark mode: Full dark theme support to reduce eye strain and accommodate light sensitivity
- Color contrast: Text and interactive elements meet WCAG AA contrast requirements (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text)
- Resizable text: Content scales appropriately when browser text size is adjusted up to 200%
- Focus indicators: Clear, visible focus states for keyboard navigation with high-contrast outlines
- No flashing content: We avoid content that flashes more than three times per second to prevent seizure risks
- Color independence: Information is not conveyed by color alone; icons and text labels provide additional context
Motor Accessibility
We ensure the platform is usable for people with motor impairments:
- Keyboard navigation: All interactive elements are accessible via keyboard (Tab, Enter, Space, Arrow keys)
- Skip links: "Skip to main content" links for bypassing repetitive navigation
- Large click targets: Buttons and interactive elements have adequate size (minimum 44x44 pixels) for easy interaction
- No time limits: Users can take as long as needed outside of timed practice sessions
- No complex gestures: All functionality is available through simple clicks or key presses
Keyboard Shortcuts
View all available keyboard shortcuts in the Help Center or press ? on any page.
Cognitive Accessibility
We design for users with cognitive and learning differences:
- Clear navigation: Consistent, predictable navigation throughout the Platform with breadcrumbs and clear hierarchy
- Simple language: Plain language where possible, with technical ABA terms explained in context and glossary
- Error messages: Clear, descriptive error messages that explain what went wrong and how to fix it
- Progress indicators: Visual feedback showing progress through learning modules and practice sessions
- Consistent layout: Predictable page layouts that don't change unexpectedly
- Chunked content: Information is broken into manageable sections with clear headings
Assistive Technology Support
TAFMEDS is designed to work with common assistive technologies:
- Screen reader compatibility: Semantic HTML and ARIA labels for screen reader users (tested with NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver)
- Alternative text: Descriptive alt text for all meaningful images and icons
- Form labels: All form inputs have properly associated labels and error descriptions
- Heading structure: Logical heading hierarchy (h1 → h2 → h3) for easy navigation
- Landmark regions: ARIA landmarks for main content, navigation, and complementary sections
- Live regions: Dynamic content updates are announced to screen readers
Tested with: NVDA (Windows), JAWS (Windows), VoiceOver (macOS/iOS), TalkBack (Android)
Practice Session Accessibility
TAFMEDS practice sessions involve timed typing exercises. We have implemented the following considerations:
- Typing baseline: Initial assessment establishes your personal typing speed as a baseline, accounting for individual differences in motor ability
- Clear timer display: Large, high-contrast countdown timer with color changes as time decreases
- Keyboard-focused input: Practice sessions are designed for keyboard input without requiring mouse interaction
- Session recovery: If a session is interrupted, you can recover and continue where you left off
- Configurable settings: Adjust timing options through the Settings page
Accommodations: If you require accommodations for timed assessments due to a disability, please contact us to discuss available options.

Known Limitations
While we strive for comprehensive accessibility, we are aware of some current limitations:
- Standard Celeration Charts: Complex data visualizations may have limited screen reader accessibility. We provide alternative text summaries and tabular data where possible.
- Timed sessions: The nature of fluency-building exercises requires timed practice, which may present challenges for some users. Contact us for accommodations.
- Third-party content: Some embedded content from third parties (e.g., payment forms) may not meet our accessibility standards.
- PDF documents: Some downloadable research articles may have limited accessibility. We are working to provide accessible alternatives.
We are actively working to address these limitations and improve accessibility across the Platform.
