If TAFMEDS Free covers the material and practice you use, you can keep using it. Student becomes worth considering when a specific limit interrupts your routine or a paid feature supports work you have already planned.
As coursework builds toward finals, it is tempting to choose a plan based on everything you might do. Start with what you expect to use next week: which decks, how many practice visits, and whether you need charts or mock exams. These three examples can help.
Three routines, three different decisions
“I want to return to one course topic several times this week.” Free may be enough. Choose an accessible course deck or sampler, complete a short practice session, and review your result. A routine with a few sessions on each practice day can fit within the Free daily allowance.
“I am practicing across several exam areas and want full mock exams.” Student is the stronger fit when you will use its broader deck access, domain-specific practice, full mocks, or charting. Name the feature you need before starting a trial. More available practice is useful only if it fits your schedule.
“I already study regularly and need to share chart PDFs.” Look at Professional's reporting features. Student includes progress-data export, but PDF Standard Celeration Chart export is a Professional feature. A need for that report is a different purchasing reason from needing more daily practice.
These are illustrative routines, not learner testimonials or promises about exam results.

When staying on Free makes sense
Stay on Free if your chosen material is accessible, the daily limits fit your schedule, and basic progress tracking answers your immediate questions.
For example, BCBA Foundations Sampler and RBT Core Concepts Sampler offer free starting points. Browse their descriptions in the deck library, then choose according to your course or learning goal. Seeing a deck in the catalog does not mean every account can practice it; check access before planning around a particular deck.
You can also use Free while deciding whether TAFMEDS belongs in your routine. Create a free account if you are new, then plan a return visit. You do not need to start a paid-plan trial to use the Free plan.
When Student has a clear job to do
Consider Student when you can finish this sentence: “I will use ___ to do ___ this week.” That might mean domain-specific practice for an area you identified as difficult, a full mock exam followed by answer review, or a Standard Celeration Chart to examine practice over time.
A trial can help you check whether those features suit you. Put the activities on your calendar first and review the experience before the trial ends. AI scoring and coaching can support study, but check explanations against your course materials and ask an instructor about unresolved questions. An app score alone does not establish exam readiness.
Understand the trial and billing before starting
The Free plan costs $0 and does not require checkout. A Student trial gives you seven days on a paid plan and requires a payment card. Unless you cancel before the trial ends, paid billing begins for the interval you selected.
Student's annual option is $59 billed annually. The approximately $4.92 monthly figure is an annual-price equivalent, not a monthly payment option. Twelve $9 monthly payments total $108, so annual billing costs $49 less over a full year at these prices. Monthly billing may suit a shorter or uncertain period of use.
Choose the interval deliberately: switching between monthly and annual billing, or between Student and Professional, takes effect immediately. The pricing FAQ says switching during a trial ends that trial and starts paid billing. Outside a trial, changes can produce an immediate charge or credit.
Annual subscriptions have a 30-day refund window with account review by support. Do not assume that canceling automatically requests or guarantees a refund. Check the current terms and contact support for help.
Already have an account?
Use your existing account. Open Settings, select Subscription, and review the available plan and billing controls. Manage Billing opens the billing portal for accounts with a billing relationship. Review the displayed trial end or renewal date and confirm any cancellation there.
If you are buying access for an entire class or program, ask about Institution pricing. Classroom requirements need a separate discussion from an individual Student subscription.
Make the choice from your next week
Before deciding, check three things: Does Free include the material you need? Is a daily limit actually getting in your way? Can you name a paid feature you have time to use?
If Free fits, choose a free deck and keep practicing. If Student fills a specific need, compare the plans and review the trial terms before starting. Choose the plan that supports your next week of study.
